Osmo Genius Starter Kit

Osmo’s Genius Starter Kit is available now on Amazon.com

For Christmas 2020, we gifted this program for Delilah after she circled it in an annual Holiday Toy Book. Being the little Math and Science whiz that she is, I had no doubts that she would take to it immediately.

The Osmo Genius Starter kit is a program for the ipad that offers age appropriate games in math, drawing and phonics. It manages to make learning, not only fun, but challenging which is every parents dream!

What’s included?

The kit comes with:

  • an “Osmo base” for the ipad
  • an Osmo camera accessory
  • 40 number tiles for math games
  • 7 geometric shapes for geometry games
  • 52 letter tiles for phonics games

Instructions for use

You can access the games in just a few easy steps:

  1. Download the “Osmo World” app from the app store onto your child’s ipad
  2. Sign your child up by using an email address
  3. Setup a profile
  4. Download the 5 games via the Osmo World app
  5. Slide the Osmo camera accessory over the iPad’s camera lens
  6. Place the ipad on the Osmo base

After that, it’s time to let your little one explore! Here’s a demonstration of Delilah using Osmo World

It’s colorful, interactive and offers incentives like tickets and stickers to keep kids striving for more!

Gameplay

The kit offers 5 games in total: numbers, words, tangram, newton and masterpiece. Each game has a series of mini games to keep your child nice and busy! To play, the game asks them to assemble the tiles (or draw on a white surface) within view of the camera and the camera picks it up and displays it on the screen! I was amazed at the technology behind this! Games have sure come a long way since I was a kid.

Delilah’s favorites are the numbers and words games. Here are some previews:

Numbers

For this game, they’ll need the number tiles. There are 2 kinds: numeric and pips (which are the dots found on dice). The numbers game has 4 categories:

  • Count
  • Add
  • Connect
  • Multiply

Delilah is playing the Count game. The objective is to come up with different combos of number tiles that add up to the numbers on the screen. When your child completes a combo successfully, the value is added and accumulates to their score.

Delilah scored over 1000 points! Way to go Delilah!

Words

For this game, they’ll need the letter tiles. There are 4 categories:

  1. Adventure
  2. Versus
  3. Zen
  4. Solo Junior

Delilah is playing the Adventure game. In this game, they’ll make their way across a map by competing in spelling competitions against the in-game characters. The first player to build the word wins! The words increase in difficulty as your child goes along.

Owly was no match for Delilah!

I love watching my child learn and grow by use of the Osmo Genius Kit. You can even track your Childs usage and progress by downloading the Osmo Parent App. This particular kit is recommended for kids ages 6 – 10, but they also offer a “Little Genius Kit” for ages 3 – 5.
