Got to catch up with an old friend

Today, I linked up with my friend Tanya for an afternoon hike in Van Cortlandt Park.

Tanya has been on a new path that has lead her to pursue new activities in the name of health and wellness.
For her birthday this year, she asked me to host a hiking event in her honor. I was so touched!

We decided to try the Old Croton Aqueduct trail–it’s local so it didn’t require a car and was rated “easy”. I thought it would be the perfect introduction to hiking.
This was my first time hiking in the afternoon/evening. I’m a punk so I refuse to hike at night (lol). I’m glad that I gave it a try, the views were incredible.

The whole hike took about an hour, we walked for 30 minutes and couldn’t help but stop when we hit the lake/golf course. You know I never miss a photo op!

It was great to catch up with her and share our thoughts, views, troubles, and ideas. I still say it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.
The real hike will be on Monday the 23rd. We’re already expecting a handful of people! I can’t wait to share the views and healing benefits of nature with people like me who have lived in NYC their entire lives and never knew these spaces existed.
I’ll let you guys know how it is!
Until our next adventure…

Hello wellness warriors and self care enthusiasts!
Just popping in to say hello ^_^
While I have you, here are a few updates:
- New Page Title: Made some minor adjustments that I’d like to highlight for easier navigation. The portfolio page is now “Here’s to Achieving Your Goals“. You can check out all of my collaborations and featured work there. Kaillaby the Writer is now “Words to Live By” you can check out my collection of blog posts there (15 and counting)
- New Posts: I wanted to try to give you guys something lighter in tone while also satisfying my constant desire to put people on to stuff (I like to consider myself resourceful). So, I made lists of some of my favorite things: journals and food 🙂 You can find my latest posts “5 Unique Journals You Can Buy At Target” and “6 Vegan Products You Didn’t Know You Needed” under my page “Words to Live By“. Let me know what you think!
I’ve been hard at work thinking of how I can take Happiness Over Everything to the next level. I want to do more for you guys because 1. you deserve it and 2. I truly want to make a difference in the name of health and wellness. It’s the entire inspiration behind H.O.E.
With that being said, I’ll be off of social media for a little while. I’ll need to focus on my mission of elevating the Happiness Over Everything brand. But don’t worry, the blog isn’t going anywhere! You’ll still have me here. Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already so you can receive updates and new posts, live.
I’ll be working on sending some kind of newsletter so you can receive things like polls and updates concerning other pages, too.
I’ll keep you posted!

I lived in the Bronx most of my life and never realized it’s potential until now.

You’d be surprised what you can find right in your own neck of the woods if only you stopped to look around.
The Bronx is known for its rough neighborhoods, historic buildings, and ties to hip hop culture but not many people realize how beautiful it is.
Today my family and I had a cookout in this little known spot in the Bronx. I was genuinely awe struck.

From the moment we arrived, I couldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was and how much I loved it. I kept telling everyone we needed to go back.
See? I told you lol
Since I was a kid, I always assumed I had to head downtown to get pretty sights and clean parks. I was born and raised in the Wakefield area, and was very surprised that I had never seen this park before. I’m glad my Uncle and mother put me on today.

It was nice to kick back and relax with my side of the family, not at someone’s house, but in nature–a habit I’d like to incorporate from now on.

The cookout was legendary. Even with just us 7. There was plenty of laughs, food, and conversation.
The park was clean, spacious, and virtually empty. Plenty of space so no two people were on top of each other.
It definitely exceeded my expectations. Don’t you love when an event turns out that way?

I hope life takes you by surprise today.
Or you make a new discovery about something that’s been around you all along.
It’s never too late to learn something new! Every day is a new opportunity.
Why wait?
